Crataegi, Fructus 山楂 (Chinese: Shan Zha)

Fructus Crataegi or Chinese Hawthorne comes in two forms, raw and charred. Both can be used for digestive problems but the raw form is generally preferred to help improve blood circulation. It is used for amenorrhea and postpartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis. More recent research has focused on its use for high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and elevated serum cholesterol (i.e., it can help lower cholesterol). Amenorrhea is the absence or suppression of menstruation. It is normal before puberty, after menopause, during pregnancy and lactation.

Other: Research has shown Shan Zha lowers cholesterol and helps inhibit the formation of biofilm.

Packets can be taken singley or combined with other herbs to make a formula. Use one packet to four cups water. Drink 1-3 cups per day.
