Homalomenae, Rhizoma (Chinese: qian nian jian) belongs to the category of herbs entitled "Herbs that Dispel Wind-Dampness." It dispels wind-dampness and strengthens the sinews and bones and is widely used in treating the elderly, both as an external wash and for internal use.

It is used for pain in the joints or bones as well as for rheumatoid arthritis with cold sensation and pain in the back and knees. It has a strong fortifying action. Can be combined with Achyranthis for joint pain. Use 4.5-9 gm.
