Fructus Hordei Germinatus is the dried germinated grains of Barley, Hordeum vulgare L. (family Graminae). Two types are available, charred and unprocessed,. The unprocessed herb described here is used as a carminative to treat galactostasis - the cessation or checking of milk secretion. It is also used with tonifying herbs to prevent undesirable side effects such as gas and distention.
Packets can be taken singley or combined with other herbs to make a formula. Use one packet to four cups water. Drink 1-3 cups per day.
