Other similar herbs:
Medicated leaven has another variant called "medicinal fermented mass" which has such aliases as Quanzhou medicated leaven, Fanzhi leaven or Laofanzhi medicated leaven.
The medicinal fermented mass is made through fermentation from scores of herbs, such as wheat flour, wheat bran, purple perilla, jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), fangfeng (Radix Ledebouriellae), official magnolia bark, aucklandia root, immature citron or trifoliate orange (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), dried green orange peel (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), etc. It is mainly produced in Quanzhou, Fujian. Bitter in taste and slightly warm in nature, this herb has similar functions to those of medicated leaven in promoting digestion and removing food stagnancy. It can also regulate the flow of qi, remove dampness, strengthen the spleen and normalize the functioning of the spleen and stomach. It is also good at the treatment of diarrhea due to summer-heat and dampness and poor appetite with vomiting. Its administration is the same as that for medicated leaven.

Note: The efficacy of this product has not been confirmed by research, and traditional use does not establish that the product will achieve the claimed results.
