Nelumbinis Nuciferae, Semen (Chinese: lian zi; English: lotus seed) has long been cultivated as food and medicine. The seeds are used to clear Heart fire and nourish the Kidneys and are used for irritability, insomnia, and restlessness. They also strengthen the Spleen and stop diarrhea. Can be used with Glehniae, Codonopsis, and Dioscoreae. Use 6-12 grams.
To make a delicious soup, soak a cup of lotus seeds in water for a few hours, drain and then boil in fresh water, adding honey or sugar.
