This is a story about a father and his two sons. The elder son leaves for Shenzhen to make a fortune while his father stays in Beijing to take care of his younger, disabled son, sticking to the job of bathing others. Misled by a wrong message that his father is dead, the elder son dashes back to Beijing, only to find the charm of the bathing pool and its importance to the neighborhood. Surrounded by the customers and absorbed in the culture of the "shower," the elder son has to take the responsibilities of his household while trying to achieve his personal values in the developing country. Shower examines the current state of Chinese culture where traditions are being abandoned by the modern world. Winner at the 1999 Toronto International Film Festival and 2000 Seattle Film Festival.
