How to Prepare Bulk Chinese Herbs into Tea

Bulk herbs need to be cooked into tea to use. Dosages are listed on our website for the herbs we sell. You can also follow recommendations of books for making formulas. Please see our book section.

To start: bring four cups of water to a rapid boil in a stainless steel, glass, or ceramic pot.

Add a single herb or if you are making a formula add all the herbs to the boiling water.

Boil vigorously for 5 minutes. Then turn down the heat to a medium boil and cook for 15 minutes.

Finally lower the heat more and simmer for 15-20 minutes. some of the liquid will evaporate during the cooking process but you should have a minimum of two cups of tea left when done (but not less).

Strain and drink one cup of tea two to three times a day or as recommended.

When the tea is gone add four more cups of water to the herbs and repeat the cooking procedure. Discard the herbs after the second cooking.
