Schizandra, Fructus - 8 oz. bulk 五味子
Schizandra (Schisandrae), Fructus (Chinese: wu wei zi)
Source: Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus is the dried ripe fruit of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. (Magnoliaceae). The ripe fruit is collected in autumn, stalk and foreign matter removed, then dried under the sun or after steamed to obtain Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus.
Description: Irregularly spheroidal to compressed-spheroidal, 5-8 mm in diameter. Externally red to dull red, shrunken, oily, with soft pulp, sometimes externally blackish-red or covered with “white frost”. Seeds 1-2, kidney-shaped, externally brownish-yellow, lustrous, thin and fragile. Odor of pulp slight; taste slightly sour. Odor of seeds fragrant when broken; taste pungent and slightly bitter
Actions: Schizandra purifies the blood, rejuvenates the Kidney energy, brightens the mind, calms the spirit, and causes the skin to become radiant. Herbalist Ron Teeguarden reports that after 100 days of use, skin will be smooth and free of blemishes and that it also builds sexual energy in men and women. Research shows that it improves brain efficiency, quickens reflexes, increases endurance and has a liver protective effect similar to Milk Thistle. Combines well with Rehmanniae, Lycii, and Cuscutae. A thin white crust ("white frost") may be found on the berries but does not affect the quality. It gives it the salty taste. Use 3-9 grams.
Size: 8 oz. bulk
Note: The efficacy of this product has not been confirmed by research. Traditional use does not establish that the product will achieve the claimed results.
